When Gabrielle Christian clinched her first starring role as Spencer Carlin in The "N" Network's "South of Nowhere," this cousin of movie legend Spencer Tracy was "amazed and delighted at the irony of my character's name."
One of five daughters of a librarian for the Library of Congress and a writer/editor, Gabrielle tapped into her extended family's show biz roots and began performing professionally onstage in the nation's capital at age 12. She started in numerous plays at her performing arts high school, landing her all-time favorite role, Sally Bowles in "Cabaret," before embarking on theater studies at the
University of Pittsburgh.
While still in high school, Gabrielle landed a recurring role on the WB series "Young Americans," and once in Hollywood, she won guest spots on CBS's "Without A Trace," Lifetime's "What Should You Do?," and Nickelodeon's "Drake & Josh." She especially savors "South of Nowhere" as a series that "expresses sensitive subjects that should be expressed" and relates to Spencer as "a sweet girl next door who's
liberal and experimental."
An avid traveler, Gabrielle, who was born and raised in Maryland, enjoys studying languages and is fluent in Hungarian (her father's native tongue). Yoga, pilates, skiing, running, swimming, movies, and singing are among her favorite leisure time activities.
